Mike and Rajo demonstrate a handy rule of thumb for creating interesting compositions: the "rule of thirds".

Don't frame your object in the middle, centered. The Rule of Thirds divides the frame both at the horizontal and vertical and set the interesting stuff at the intersection of one of the four spots.
